Muslim Culture

The cultures and traditions of Muslim vary throughout the world. At the same time Muslims throughout the world share the same essential beliefs, values, and God-centered approach to the world. All Muslims look to the Qur'an and the lifestyle and traditions of Prophet Muhammad for guidance in their daily affairs.Traditionally in Muslim Culture, it was the family who used to search a suitable match for their children. But the westernization of Muslim Religion can be observed as they come in search of their partners over the internet.

In Muslim Culture, Marriage is considered as an religious duty and represents the Muslim beliefs and customs. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has even said that when a Muslim marries, he has fulfilled half of the religious devotion and duties and then he should take care of other half by being God-minded and aware of his obligations.

Some of the important rules which must be followed in order to conlcude a Marriage according to the verses of the Holy Quran consists of :

• No marriage contract is valid without a wali.
• Both offer and acceptance must be explicit in mentioning the word marriage (or any other word in any language implying a similar situation). Both statements should be made at the same sitting, i.e. one party to the other.
• The consent of both Muslim man and Muslim woman is necessary condition for the marriage without which the marriage is not valid.
• At least two Muslim male witnesses are required or one male and two females.
• The Sadaq or Mahr (dower) is a required marriage gift given by the groom to the bride. It represents his commitment to take care of all the family expenses including her personal needs.
• The Marriage should be publically announced.
